Weather this year

El Nino, the Pacific Ocean warming phenomenon will disappear by June. El Nino is a warming that is developed every 2-5 years and lasts for  about a year. It gererally prevents Atlantic waves to become strong. It also catalysed like record snows in Washington and Dallas, drought in Venezuela and flooding in Peru.

The phenomenon also enhances high level winds in the Atlantic called shear. The hurricane season is from June 1 and nov 30. Nine named storms formed in 2009.

The collapse of El Nino indicated that the Atlantic will have a more active hurricane season this year.  When El Nino goes, it takes away shear that may stop hurricanes.

La Nino, the cooling phenomenon, will develop in after June. La Nino's effects on global weather are the opposite to those of El Nino. The winter in US will be warmer and dryer  in the South and cooler and wetter in the Pacific Northwest. Hurricane damage is more likely during La Nino.

The 2008 Atlantic hurricane season was one of the most active years since 1944. It produced 16 named storms with winds of at lease 39 mph of which 8 were with winds of 74 mph or greater like Gustav and Ike.
