Colon cancer is the second biggest killer cancer worldwide. Out of more than 1 million diagnosed having colon cancer 6 lac die from it.
There are precancerous polyps present in the body before the person actually shows any symptom of colon cancer. With sigmoidoscopy, these pre-cancerous polyps are detected and removed.
Thousands of lives can be saved every year with this procedure, and many persons will be saved from bowel cancer in turn saving money for the Government.
A flexible tune of 1/2 millimeter is threaded through the rectum and the bottom third of the colon where pre-cancerous polyps deveop. When the polyps detected, it is either burned or removed in the next step of about 4 minutes. It is neither painful nor require sedation. But patients must take enema before treatment.
